Confirmation is scheduled for 5:30 Mass on Friday, April 25, 2008. Rehearsal is the evening before, Thursday, April 24, 2008.

Attire (“Dress Code”)

It's not too early to give some thought to the dress code and what is considered appropriate for young adults to wear when receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Things to Know — A Place to Begin

His Excellency Bishop Edward K. Braxton will explore your preparation for this Sacrament of Initiation. While the list below is certainly not exhaustive, it is a place to begin. These are some obvious things every Catholic should know—

• Ten Commandments — known as the “Decalogue”
  • a detailed section of the Catechism devoted to the Ten Commandments
  • the Vatican has a concise side-by-side display of the Decalogue with the two places it occurs in the Old Testament
    • Exodus 20:2–17
    • Deuteronomy 5:6–21
• Sacraments of the Church (from Catholic Online)
• Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit (from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops)
  • “WURCKR WA” Gifts of the Holy Spirit (¶1831 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church). Reread the “General Intercessions” from our prayer service at the January 27 Confirmation session at Saint Francis; see page 21 of your workbook...
  • The Fruits of the Holy Spirit (¶1832 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church)
• Beatitudes From Jesus' “Sermon on the Mount,” Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 5, “the Beatitudes are at the heart of Jesus' preaching.”¹
  • Our Vocation to Beatitude (¶1716 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church)
• Saints
  • Catholic Online has a great set of saints pages.
  • Be sure you know your saint and be prepared to explain why you chose the name you chose for your confirmation name. His Excellency will want to know why you wish to model your life after that of your chosen saint. It will not be enough that Luke is the patron saint of physicians and you want to be a physician. The bishop will be interested in how Luke lived and why you wish to hold that up as a model for your life. Know your saint!

Attire (“Dress Code”)

For men

• No flip-flops and — if possible — no sneakers.
• Dress shirt — no t-shirts
• Long pants — no jeans and no shorts

For women

• No flip-flops or heeled slides — no sneakers
• Dress or dress slacks (not jeans) would be appropriate; this is neither the time nor the place for:
  • low riders or for
  • belly button rings to show
  
  No spaghetti strap dresses
• Skirts and tops are also appropriate (but no spaghetti strap tops)

If you think it might not be appropriate, it probably wouldn't.
